Cataracts
Once humans reach their 60’s or 70’s, the natural lenses in our eyes gradually become cloudy. These are cataracts, and they cause visual symptoms such as blurriness, glare, light sensitivity, the need for brighter light, trouble driving especially at night or in the rain, and difficulty seeing fine detail.
Once the cataracts affect a person’s ability to perform their daily activities or hobbies confidently and safely, surgery can be the next step to improve vision. Cataract surgery is a safe 15 minute procedure in which the natural cloudy lens is gently removed and a clear artificial lens is implanted. Patients are sedated and the procedure is painless. We perform the latest no stitch, no patch, microsurgical techniques using state of the art equipment. Most surgeries can be performed at an outpatient surgery center in the Mills River area.
We offer standard lenses which usually optimize distance vision. We also offer premium artificial lenses (Panoptix, Symfony, Toric, Vivity) which can decrease astigmatism and allow patients to become less dependent on glasses for both distance and reading vision. Your surgeon and our staff can discuss these options in detail and answer all your questions. If you know or think you have cataracts, you can call and schedule a cataract consultation.
Dr. Johnson and Dr. Verm have over 35 years of combined experience, and we are very grateful to the thousands of patients who have trusted us to improve their vision with surgery.
