Dr. Katherine Volatile

dr-katherine-e-volatile-mdAs a Board Certified Ophthalmologist since 1985, Dr. Volatile has extensive experience in the diagnosis and treatment of eye disease. She enjoys the diagnosis and treatment of glaucoma, dry eye syndrome, macular degeneration, diabetic eye disease and is available for emergencies involving the eye. Dr. Volatile provides routine eye examination and prescribes glasses and contacts lenses.
 
Dr. Volatile also enjoys the practice of Medical Aesthetics. Having over 20 years of experience with Botox Cosmetic, Dr. Volatile has an active practice injecting facial fillers including Juvederm, Voluma and Kybella. She is a member of Allergan’s Brilliant Distinctions Program. Dr. Volatile has received extensive training from the Medical Aesthetics Institute and has participated in Master’s Injectors Courses.
 
Dr. Volatile attended Smith College in Massachusetts where she obtained a B.A. in Psychology. After graduating, she spent a year working as a Research Assistant at Yale University in Pediatric Neurology. She then attended Emory University School of Medicine and earned her MD. During her time at Emory, Dr. Volatile worked again in Research at the Clinical Research Facility, a division of the National Institutes of Health. Dr. Volatile completed her Internship in Internal Medicine at Emory before moving to Baltimore to serve her Ophthalmology Residency. She completed her Residency at the Greater Baltimore Medical Center in 1985. During her training there, she worked at the Retinal Vascular Center at the prestigious Wilmer Eye Institute at Johns Hopkins Hospital. During her training, she published in the American Journal of Ophthalmology.
 
Dr. Volatile is a Fellow and Diplomat of the American Academy of Ophthalmology. She serves on the Board of Care Partners in Asheville.
 
Having grown up in Georgia, she is happy to call the South her home. Dr. Volatile enjoys family, swimming, hiking, yoga, reading and playing the piano. She is married to Dr. Leon Elliston who works with Allergy Partners. They enjoy travel, their 6 adult children and a growing number of grandchildren.
